No matter where you live, weeds are annoying, unsightly, and a pain to get rid of. Homeowners have been fighting weeds since the dawn of civilization and weeds have become hardier and have developed clever ways to ensure their survival in your lawn.
Weeds are more than just an eyesore. They are aggressive growers and once they invade your lawn via seeds or underground root systems they will crowd out your weaker grass. As they grow they will rob the surrounding grass of nutrients, water, and even sunlight. Weeds need to be dealt with as soon as they are sighted. If you wait and they go to seed or spread through underground tendrils, then your problem is only going to multiply.
Establish themselves and reproduce as fast as possible to ensure their survival. Just like some kind of alien species invading your property with the plan of total lawn domination.
Treating weeds depends on many factors such as climate, location, and season. Each species of weed has its own growth cycle that begins at different times throughout the year, making them a constant nuisance. Some are warm weather weeds and some are cold weather weeds just like your grass.
You don’t have to worry about what time a certain weed grows or what kind of herbicide to use that won’t harm your grass. At Land-Art we have the skills, experience, and the tools necessary to take care of your weed problem.
The best way to control weeds is to start early. Preventing weeds from germinating is essential to keeping weed populations down. During the fall weeds will send out their seeds to re-establish new plants elsewhere. These seeds will settle under your grass and wait until spring arrives before they sprout.
When you partner with Land-Art you will get an application of pre-emergent weed control to kill those overwintering weeds before they have a chance to take over your yard. We continue our season-long treatment with follow up applications of broadleaf and post-emergent weed control to kill sedge, crabgrass, and dollar weed just to name a few.
Keeping your grass healthy and strong is key to fending off invasive weeds. Our lawn care program can help you achieve that post-worthy lawn but there are also steps you can take to help keep weeds at bay between our visits.
Strategy 1: Avoid establishing new turf from seed when crabgrass normally is germinating in your area. Avoid any disturbance of a pre-emergence barrier. Keep your grass hydrated.
Strategy 2: Raise your mower deck height slightly when crabgrass is germinating. Then lower the mower deck and collect clippings when crabgrass is setting seed.
Strategy 3: Always incorporate good cultural practices; mowing, irrigating, and the Land-Art fertilization program all season long.
Strategy 4: Utilizing both pre-emergent and post-emergent products.
